floral design classes

Isn't this image of kangaroo paw perfect for fall? Suzi at Q Weddings has such a way with light, you're simply going to be blown away by the images on her new website. There's a secret gallery you will love... is it still a secret if I tell you about it?

Also! I'm so excited to announce two dates for the 2010 fall floral design class schedule:

Tuesday, October 5th, 8:30am to 12noon
&
Sunday, December 5th, 12:30pm to 4pm

hosted by Sabia Apothecary and Spa
$250 (includes containers, flowers, tools and yummy snacks)
Classes limited to 6 students

We'll meet at Austin Flower Company to pick out gorgeous fall blooms for a hand-tied bouquet, then head down to Sabia where more flowers will be waiting for a roundtable workshop. You'll take home two or three arrangements perfect for the holiday season.

Please reserve your spot by calling Brooke at 512 586.8913.

fun floral design demo

I'm so excited to announce a fun summer afternoon with Sabia and Pollen:

Saturday, August 28th 1-3 p.m./ $25

Sabia Apothecary and Spa
1213 West 5th Street, Suite B1
(corner of 5th and Orchard)
Austin, TX 78703 map

Brooke Howsley of Pollen Floral Art along with Sabia are pleased to announce a collaborative floral workshop focusing on seasonal flowers and native herbs. In this class we will be distilling a selection of aromatic herbs in a hydrodistillation unit; and our favorite designer will lead a floral design demonstration using similar herbs. You will learn about the use of the herbs growing in your garden while observing how to do an arrangement with the same botanicals! The beautiful and lush arrangement will be given to one lucky attendee. Please call #(512)469-0447 to secure a slot in the class. Space is limited!

pollen in the new york times

What a great article about Little Flower School in the New York Times today! And Pollen got a mention! Go all you talented ladies!

Image above from a post last fall about a free floral demonstration I did as part of the East Austin Studio Tour. I'm planning another floral demo-for a small fee-at Sabia off 5th street for later this month.

mmmm, pink wedding cake

A few more images of the beautiful pinks... the whole room looked so glowy once the vintage milk glass candles were lit. The inside of the cake was a delicate, naturally tinted pink with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting, made by a talented friend.

in love with pink and brown, again

A sweet bouquet for a dear friend Sophie, which includes all divine pink flowers... Phoebe and Baronesse garden roses, ranunculus, sweetpeas, hydrangea, mini cym orchids, Supernova and pink Majolika spray roses. Smells heavenly.

And her centerpieces, with Badam pods, astrantia, Sophie and Shocking Versillia roses, hydrangea, Majolika sprays and carnations.

Bout and corsages of Supernova's with smilax curls.

the beauty of uncommon objects

I've been taking in some potted orchids and foliage plants to sell at Uncommon Objects, which I think compliment the antiques beautifully. I love scouring the store for items to fill out the vignettes. Yes, that's a coffee table/planter filled with vining begonia and alocasia with a tillandsia sitting on the back side.

The fresh arrangement this week included pink king protea, grass seed heads, and christmas bush as well as coral vine (or Queen's Wreath) cut from my yard.

tillandsias at sabia

Some fun new tillandsias found their way into Sabia last week, replacing the orchid plants. Just right for summer.
