woke up feeling a little radish-y

I was flipping through the archives and ran across some bouquets I did for a photo shoot in Tribeza. They wanted vegetables included in the design, and I was only too happy to take on that challenge! I've always thought little bunches of radishes look like bouquets, especially when they're displayed well at stores like Whole Foods.

In the top shot I've let the roots shine by mixing the radishes with lamb's ear and white tulips. In the bottom shot deep purple kale circles peonies, celosia and radishes. You can see the full mag spreads here.

Have you seen any designers using veggies in a unique way? Send me a heads-up and I'll try to feature them.

floral designer: jennifer's gardens

Jennifer Myers has a great garden. I know because I've visited her award-winning home in Austin several times, and at every visit something new and exciting is in bloom. Recently, Jennifer has turned her considerable talents to the art of floral design, and is currently working with daughter Madeleine to provide wedding and event flowers to Austinites.

You can check out more of her amazing floral work on her website. Bouquet photo by Diana Lott.

succulents mixed with cut flowers

The crosspollination banner uses a shot of a bridesmaid's bouquet I did for a wedding a while back (I can't remember the photographer - if you know her contact info email me). I absolutely love mixing succulents with fresh cut flowers and the trend is still steadily growing.

The corsages and bouts also reflected the eclectic feel and orange/fuschia/gray-green color scheme.

Here's the bride carrying her bouquet, which she planted after the wedding, and the succulents and echeverias are still growing! Below is the image from MSWeddings that the bride brought in as her inspiration, but liked the idea of tulips instead of orchids. Bouquet is by Livia Cetti.
You can find another stunning bouquet using echeverias on One Love Photography's blog.

Here's a few examples of other ways I've used succulents in designs for Pollen.

Fresh mini pineapples are mixed with Peppermint roses, acacia foliage, fishing net and shells.

The entry table arrangement is packed with huge King Protea, anthuriums, white bamboo poles and moss.

Galvanized metal containers hold all the faux coral, moss. orchids, roses and succulents on the buffet table. Wish I'd gotten some shots after the votives were lit and the sun went down!

a new orleans wedding

This October I'll get to create the flowers for my best friend L's wedding, in addition to being the matron of honor. It's at Cafe Amelie in New Orleans, which will be a total blast! This bouquet from MSWeddings is the inspiration, and we'll conjure up many unique details with materials like kumquats, sugarcane, colorful coffee cans and spanish moss. Stay tuned for a full inspiration board soon.
