I set up a buffet and coffee-table display at Mary Sledd's open house this week (great photographer, check her out!). I used a mix of locally grown succulents with cut flowers and bird and wasp nests, and coconut fiber. I feel like I'm over-using some of these elements lately, but the little nests are so cool I just can't leave them out!
Materials include a green kalanchoe, a kalanchoe flower spike, orangey-yellow tulips, sea bells (my wholesaler calls this kind dog-eye euphorbia), pussy willow, alocasia leaves, coconut fiber, yellow pincushions, and bird and wasp nests.

uncommon flowers for uncommon objects
Pollen does flowers for the front display case at a wonderful shop on South Congress called Uncommon Objects. I just had to share the one above which includes succulents, blooming passionvine, ebony tulips, and pincushions.
Uncommon Objects is truly one of the funkiest antique stores in the country, started many years ago by artist Steve Wiman. The front windows and in-store displays are always a surprising collection that juxtaposes quirkiness with beauty. Some recent items include a taxidermy boar head, a metal birthing table, and, specially created for Valentine's Day, a heart made from 30 red items in the shop pinned onto the wall in the front window. Walk by and check it out!

bird's nest and amaryllis
The delivered arrangements are flying out the door - here's one with beautiful amaryllis, mimosa, stock, ranunculus, pincushion and tropical leaves. The little nest was gathered from an Amish farm, and the bird wove the horsehair into the nest!

spring flowers make me happy
Here's an arrangement going out tomorrow morning, lots of beautiful and sweet-smelling mimosa, yellow pincushions, blush anemones, double yellow daffodils, eremerus, a little orchid spike, some coconut bark and a wasp nest thrown in for good measure.
Lots of wonderful weddings and other fun projects are in the works, I'll be catching up on posting some other recent deliveries soon!
Get your orders in early for Valentine's Day...
