This arrangement was created for a tasting event at Spartan and Bows+Arrows introducing Farmhouse Delivery, a wonderful service that will deliver local meats, produce and other goodies in the Austin area.

Antique Haeger vase purchased at Uncommon Objects, aloe plant from Desert to Tropics, flowers from Arnosky and Waller Creek Farms and a friend's backyard, tomatoes and persimmons from local farms purchased at Central Market.

austin florist: petals, ink.

I love Austin. And I really love the people that live here... like Gretchen O'Neil, the owner of a new floral business called Petals, Ink. I met Gretchen last summer when I was visiting Austin, and she was so fun and nice. She's just started her own business and blog, and I can't wait to see more of her work...she also takes beautiful botanical shots. Thanks Gretchen!

austin florist: cowgirls & flowers

This week I helped out at Cowgirls & Flowers, a studio that's been creating gorgeous arrangements for 30 years. All images from their website.

austin florist: bouquets of austin

Lately I've had the pleasure of working with a great group of women at Bouquets of Austin, a premier wedding florist in north Austin. I had a chance to try out the new camera on some of the things that we created for the local Bridal Extravaganza last weekend. Shannon's bouquet with the raspberry dahlias completely took my breath away! Bouquets will be overhauling their website soon, so check back for more current work.

austin: ld design

Some great designers are making their way to Austin... Lauren Dolinsky of LD Design is one of them! Lauren creates 'sustainable botanical couture' that is easy on the environment and easy to care for, using lots of succulents and tillandsias as well as reclaimed and locally produced items. Her beautiful website is full of great ideas, and see her blog for current projects.

floral designer: jennifer's gardens

Jennifer Myers has a great garden. I know because I've visited her award-winning home in Austin several times, and at every visit something new and exciting is in bloom. Recently, Jennifer has turned her considerable talents to the art of floral design, and is currently working with daughter Madeleine to provide wedding and event flowers to Austinites.

You can check out more of her amazing floral work on her website. Bouquet photo by Diana Lott.

welcome!

For this first post, I thought I'd share a few images from an event I did the flowers for about 3 years ago - my wedding. While it was exhausting to do it all (I had help), it was also incredibly gratifying to see everything turn out beautifully. All images by YiMay Yang, a wonderful Austin-based wedding photographer and graphic designer.

I had started my floral design business, Pollen Floral Art, the year before, and I was part of a group of crafty ladies who are involved in everything from architecture to fine arts. I am inspired by that community and the ones emerging on Etsy, Flickr and the blogosphere. The future is bright with that kind of talent finding it's voice.

So, crosspollination is a way to share what I find particularly stylish and beautiful in the world of floral design, and hopefully it will inspire and inform. There will be interviews, peeks into floral shops and homes that use flowers well, product and book reviews, inspiration boards, coverage of floral trends and much more...
