butterflies in january

A big log, a little moss, and two hornet's nests. Add in some butterflies and candy hearts and you've got Sabia's Valentine's Day spring window... Jessica's gonna be throwing a wonderful V-day party, stop by and you might win a lovely Pollen arrangement or a year's worth of Sabia services!

demo at solid gold

I had a great time hanging out with Katie and gang Sunday before the demo at Solid Gold. The weather held out, and I just needed a scarf, not a rain jacket! I started off by creating a non-traditional centerpiece for a Thanksgiving table out of mossy branches, wasp nests (of course), and apothecary bottles-both new and vintage. Also on the slate was a taller buffet piece created in a vintage Haeger vase with driftwood, succulents and Dutchman's Pipe. Fall is pretty mild here in Texas, so I used a lot of fresh greens... not that I don't like fall foliage!

succulents, fern curls and ivory majolikas

A fun day today - making this bouquet and the bouts and corsages with K in our home studio. Succulents, as often as they now pop up in wedding work, always make me happy. A touch of taupe reindeer moss adds a different texture.

I'm working on a darkly sweet display for a friend's open studio tomorrow at East Austin Studio Tour. Can't wait to show you pictures of it... Dutchman's Pipe carnivorous pitchers mixed with garden roses, jasmine vine and other lovelies.

I'm loving this wacky weather, it's so hot and humid today I've been sweating in a tanktop. Probably not for long.

I'm really intrigued by Monique's beautiful work - I recently saw some of her pieces around town and decided I had to know more!

Originally from Sonoma County, but calling Austin home for 20 years, Monique's environmentally sensitive work has a very fresh and Austiny feel. Check out the Articulture website for more inspiration.

succulent wreaths with mom

Thanks for being patient while I got over my jetlag and re-integrated into life in the States. Last week I took the train (who knew Amtrak was so convenient?) up to Fort Worth to see my parents, and I got to do some projects with my mom. We made these awesome succulent wreaths from a wire wreath form, different kinds of moss and succulents, held together with fishing line and wire moss pins. They were so easy! I give my mom all the credit for picking out good succulents :).
